The Weather Company (The Weather Channel) has issued their outlook for the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season.

The outlook calls for slightly above-average activity, with 14 named storms total, seven hurricanes, three of which are expected to be major (category 3 our higher).

According to a report from The Weather Channel, The Weather Company’s outlook takes into account the current El Niño in the Pacific, which typically suppresses tropical cyclone formation in the Atlantic.

“The Weather Company’s outlook is based on a number of factors, including sea-surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean, El Niño and other teleconnections, statistical computer forecast model guidance and past hurricane seasons exhibiting similar atmospheric conditions.”

Colorado State University’s Tropical Meteorology Project issued their outlook for the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season last month at the National Tropical Weather Conference.

The CSU outlook called for slightly below-average activity, largely due to the presence of El Niño.
