Brief Update on Newly Formed Tropical Depression Nine

Invest 98L has developed into a tropical depression (Tropical Depression Nine). The initial forecast for TD9 has a category 2 hurricane near Cuba early next week.

At this point a landfall in central or south Florida Tuesday/Wednesday is looking increasingly likely. However, there is still some spread in the model guidance, and everyone along the eastern Gulf Coast should monitor the progress of TD9.

The next name on the list is Hermine, but another system just off of Africa (Invest 90L) is on the verge of becoming a tropical cyclone. If it becomes a tropical storm before TD9 then it would take the name Hermine and TD9 would become Ian.
