Pensacola WX: Strong to Severe Storms Possible Tonight into Tomorrow Morning

There is potential for a few isolated strong to severe storms tonight into tomorrow morning. A marginal (level 1 out of 5) risk for severe weather is in place.

Latest high resolution model guidance has a line of storms moving through sometime between 12 AM and 6 AM. However, it will likely be weakening as it progresses across the area. Models also indicate that showers and storms could linger through the first half of the day, but the severe threat will likely end during the morning hours.

HRRR simulated reflectivity for 3 AM CDT Thursday morning.

Overall the risk for severe weather will be lower than it was with other events over the past few weeks. Any strong/severe storms could produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter size hail. A brief, isolated tornado or two also can’t be ruled out.

Heavy rain is also likely with accumulations of 1 – 2″ expected. This could lead to localized flash flooding/minor river flooding. However, we currently have a rainfall deficit. Any flooding issues will likely arise in urban areas/areas with poor drainage that receive a lot of rain in a relatively short period of time.

National Weather Service Mobile has the entire area in a slight flood risk.
