Tropical Storm Mindy Forms; Will Make Landfall in Florida Panhandle Soon

Invest 91L has developed into Tropical Storm Mindy over the northeast Gulf of Mexico. As of the 4 PM CDT advisory maximum sustained winds were 40 mph, the minimum central pressure was 1008 mb, and movement was northeast at 21 mph.

A tropical storm warning has been issued from Mexico Beach to Steinhatchee River.

Mindy will quickly move into the Florida Panhandle tonight, likely making landfall between Panama City and Apalachicola.

The fact that a low-end tropical storm has formed doesn’t change anything with respect to impacts. Heavy rain across portions of the Florida Panhandle, south Alabama, and south Georgia tonight into tomorrow morning is still the primary concern.

However, some gusty winds, possibly to tropical storm force, will be possible where the center of Mindy comes ashore and within outer bands/squalls.

Tropical Storm Mindy has very little time left over water and strengthening is unlikely.

By tomorrow afternoon Mindy will move into the southwest Atlantic, but conditions are not expected to be conducive for intensification.
