Severe Weather Threat to Ring in The New Year

Severe weather will be possible across east Texas, much of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle to ring in the New Year.

A dynamic storm system is going to lift out of the southern Plains/Texas and into the mid/lower Mississippi Valley Thursday into Friday.

It will bring an associated cold front east. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will be likely along and ahead of the front starting in east Texas Thursday morning.

Thursday afternoon into Thursday night and early Friday morning showers/thunderstorms will spread east, into Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the western Florida Panhandle.

There will be a risk for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has delineated a slight (level 2 out of 5) risk for severe weather for Thursday. Damaging winds and tornadoes appear to be the primary threat at this time.
