A surface low is going to develop over the northwest Gulf, near the Texas Gulf Coast, Friday, and then get caught up in an approaching front.

The result is going to be widespread heavy rain and storms for East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and western Alabama going from late Thursday into the weekend.

A general 2 – 4″ of rain is forecast (see figure 1).

A tropical wave currently located over Central America, which will be moving into the southwest Gulf Friday, will also get absorbed by the aforementioned front.

Tropical development is not likely, and the National Hurricane Center has put the 5-day development chance at a low 30 percent.

There could also be a strong or severe storm or two, but the overall risk for severe weather is low.
