Barry Upgraded to a Hurricane

Barry is now a category 1 hurricane.

As of the 10 AM CDT advisory, maximum sustained winds were estimated to be 75 MPH, with a pressure of 993 millibars. Movement was to the northwest at 6 MPH.

The upgrade was based on surface/station observations, doppler radar and wind measurements from a USAF hurricane hunter plane.

With that being said, according to the latest forecast discussion from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), hurricane force winds are “limited to a small area east of the center.”

Data from a USAF reconnaissance aircraft this morning suggested that Barry might have made landfall.

However, according to the NHC, landfall has not yet occurred, but should sometime within the the next few hours.
