Enhanced Risk for Severe Thunderstorms for Parts of South Texas This Afternoon

There is an enhanced (level 3 out of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms in south-central/southeast Texas later today.

Storms should develop near San Antonio, TX and Austin, TX by mid afternoon, shifting east-southeast/southeast toward the coast by late afternoon/evening.

Eventual evolution into a mesoscale convective system (MCS) is likely.

The primary threats will be large hail and severe, damaging wind gusts.

Farther east, in southeast Louisiana, south and central Mississippi and Alabama parts of western Alabama, there will be a low-end tornado threat for through this afternoon and into this evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has outlined a slight (level 2 out of 5) risk area.
