Storm System to Bring Heavy Rain, Strong Storms to Parts of the Region Tuesday Through Wednesday

Source: U.S. Weather Central

A storm system will track across the Gulf Coast Region from Tuesday to Wednesday, bringing heavy rainfall and strong storms to Central and Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana, and some snow and ice to the Texas Panhandle.

Setup

A surface low will develop across South-central Texas on Tuesday. At the same time, an arctic air mass will press in on the Northwest side of it.

From there, the low will track to the east-northeast, across the Gulf Coast Region, through Wednesday.

Heavy Rainfall and Potential for Strong Storms

The low will bring heavy rainfall to much of Central and Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana from Tuesday to Wednesday. Presently widespread rainfall accumulations of 1 – 3″ are expected, with locally higher accumulations possible.

Rainfall accumulations between .25 – 1″ are also expected across the remainder of Louisiana, and most of Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.

There will also be the potential for some strong to severe storms on Tuesday, across Southeast Texas, and much of Southern Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. The potential for strong to severe storms will likely push into parts of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle Wednesday as well.

All modes of severe weather will be possible with any strong to severe storms on both Tuesday and Wednesday. However, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes appear to be the main threats.

Snow and Ice

Some snow and ice is likely across the Texas Panhandle. However, significant ice or snow accumulations are unlikely, with snowfall accumulations up to 1″ possible, and ice accumulations up to 0.25″ possible.
