A Severe Weather Event will Likely Impact the Western, Central Gulf Coast this Weekend

It is looking increasingly likely that a severe weather event will Impact the Western and Central Gulf Coast Regions this weekend. Additionally, a blast of bitterly cold air is likely on Sunday and Monday.

Setup: A strong storm system, that is forecast to bring winter weather to portions of the North/Central U.S. this weekend, will bring a cold tailing cold front across the Gulf Coast Region Saturday through Sunday.

The front will draw deep Gulf moisture northward, allowing widespread rain and storms to develop across much of the Western and Central Gulf Coast.

Severe potential: At this time it looks like convective available potential energy (cape) and shear will support the potential for organized severe weather across Eastern Texas, much of Louisiana and Mississippi, and parts if Northern Alabama.

It is too early to nail down what modes of severe weather will be most likely, though.

Arctic front: Temperatures won’t be as cold as with the last front. But none the less, temperatures will still drop rapidly behind the front across the Gulf Coast Region on Sunday.

GFS minimum temperature forecast valid 18z Sunday

Low temperatures Sunday night will range from the upper 20s to low 40s across much of the Gulf Coast Region, with high temperatures in 40s and 50s on Monday.
