Heavy Rainfall, Flood Threat Continues Today

The threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding continues across Southeast Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, Southern Alabama, and the Western Florida Panhandle.

Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi will receive the heaviest rain today.

There is already a large area of heavy rain impacting Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi that is causing flash flooding. Especially across Southeast Louisiana where rain accumulations of 15+ inches have caused flash flooding in St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Washington, Livingston, and West baton Rouge parishes.

Flash flooding has also occurred in Harrison and Jackson counties in Mississippi where rain accumulations of  8+ inches have occurred.

The heavy rain will continue across Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi today. Additional rainfall accumulations of 4 – 6″ are likely with higher localized accumulations of 10+ inches likely.

Periods of heavy rain are also likely across Southern Alabama and the Western Florida Panhandle today; however, the coverage will be more scattered. Overall rainfall accumulations of  1 – 3″ are expected.

Things should begin to dry out across Southern Alabama, Southern Mississippi, and the Western Florida Panhandle tomorrow as the system causing this begins to move west. However, the threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding will continue across Southern Louisiana where additional rainfall accumulations of  2 – 4″ are expected with locally higher amounts possible.

The additional rain expected today and in some places tomorrow could lead to additional flash flooding. As a result, flash flood watches are in effect across most of the Central Gulf Coast region through tonight or tomorrow.
