Another Round of “Pipe-bursting” Cold Tonight; Warming Up This Weekend

The arctic airmass that settled in yesterday resulted in dangerous “pipe-bursting” cold last night. Temperatures dropped into the single digits to upper 20s.

Tonight: Skies will be clear. There will be another round of extreme “pipe-bursting” cold tonight. Lows will range from the lower teens to upper 20s tonight (except for the lower Texas Gulf Coast, where lows will be in the lower to mid 30s).

Hard freeze warning: A hard freeze warning is in effect for much of the region.

A few cities included are Houston (TX), Shreveport(LA), Lake Charles(LA), New Orleans(LA), Jackson(MS), Biloxi(MS), Mobile(AL), Birmingham(AL), and Pensacola(FL).

Ice: There was some melt today. However, with temperatures dropping below freezing again tonight, ice that has not melted will remain and any residual snow, ice, and moisture will refreeze tonight forming black ice.

Tomorrow: Skies will remain clear, with afternoon highs ranging from the lower to upper 40s.

Warming up this weekend: A warm up is on the way this weekend, as an area of high pressure will move in Saturday and dominate through Sunday.
