Hurricane Season not Done yet

Figure 1. Latest 5-day graphical tropical weather outlook from the National Hurricane Center.

A vigorous tropical wave just east of the Leeward Islands, Invest 96-L, has a chance of becoming tropical/subtropical cyclone this week.

25 – 30 knots of shear is currently impeding development. This will likely abate some by tomorrow into Wednesday and allow for some development, though. Only the GFS was showing development as of the 00z model suite.

The National Hurricane Center is giving 96-L a 90% chance of developing over the next 5 days. However, if 96-L does develop, a trough should sweep it out to sea.
