Wet, Stormy New Year Ahead

The front completed it’s passage across the region this afternoon, allowing dry air and cool temperatures to filter in behind it.

Tonight through tomorrow: Generally dry and cool conditions are expected across the Gulf Coast through tomorrow night.

Low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 30s to lower to the mid 40s across the entire region tonight, with high temperatures ranging from the mid 50s to mid 60s tomorrow.

Another chilly night is expected tomorrow night, with low temperatures ranging from the upper 30s to upper 40s.

Rain and storms this weekend into early next week: A low pressure system is still expected to develop across the Gulf Coast on Saturday, and track east across the region though early Monday; bringing wide-spread, heavy rainfall and storms with it.

Overall, 2 – 3″ of rain is expected to fall across the Central and Western Gulf Coast from Saturday through Monday. However, some places could see locally higher amounts, and flash flooding could be a concern in those locations.

There will also be the potential for some strong to severe storms on Sunday and Monday. But the overall threat doesn’t seem to substantial at this time.

Another round of rain and storms: It appears likely that an additional low pressure system will form across East Texas late Monday, and eject out to the Northeast late Tuesday.

This will bring another round of widespread, heavy rain, and potentially strong to severe storms, to the region from Monday night through late Tuesday. An additional 1 – 2″ of rain will be likely with this round of rain and storms, with locally higher amounts once again possible.

Cold late next week: A strong blast of Arctic air will be likely late next week. It is too early to know exactly how cold it might get. But we can say that it could very well be the coldest air of the season so far.
