Flooding Remains Ongoing Across South Louisiana This Morning

Flooding continued overnight and remains ongoing. Additional water rescues also took place and continue. So far 20,000 water rescues have taken place in Louisiana since this event began. In addition, there are still hundreds of road closures.
Flood warnings remain in effect for much of the Southern half of the state.

Interstate 12 remains closed from Hammond to East Baton Rouge. Motorists on I-12 remain stranded and rescue operations are still underway. In addition, I-10 is still closed from Prairieville to South Baton Rouge.
If you absolutely have to travel today use this map to know where road closures are. And remember, turn around don’t drown! Don’t drive across a roadway covered in water.

RIVER FLOODING

Many rivers, creeks, and bayous remain at flood stage. However, the water levels in quite a few of them are finally beginning to recede some. However, downstream and backwater flooding continues even though some water rivers are beginning to recede.

Most rivers, creeks, and bayous across South Louisiana will remain at flood stage through tomorrow or Wednesday with some remaining at flood stage through the end of this week.

So, in a nut shell, flooding will continue over the next day or two across South Louisiana and flood waters won’t truly begin to recede until mid to late week in most places.

EVACUATION AND SHELTERS

Evacuation orders remain in effect for many flooded areas and areas that are still expected to flood. If you need information regarding evacuation orders or shelters check with your local government officials.
If you receive an evacuation order, we strongly advise that you evacuate as flooding will likely occur in your area. If you do have to evacuate be sure to use the linked map above to find routes that are not flooded.
We will have another update out on Louisiana flooding tomorrow. However, we will have some updates on our Facebook page today.
